The raw material for smelting ferromolybdenum is mainly molybdenite (MoS2). Before smelting, the molybdenum concentrate is usually oxidized and calcined in a multi-hearth furnace to obtain a calcined molybdenum ore having a sulfur content of less than 0.07%. Ferro-molybdenum smelting generally uses the furnace outside method. The furnace is a cylinder placed on a ferromolybdenum sand base with a clay brick lining, using silicon-containing silicon 75% silicon iron and a small amount of aluminum particles as a reducing agent. After the charge is added to the furnace at a time, it is smelted by the upper ignition method. The initiator (saltite, aluminum shavings or magnesium shavings) is used on the surface to react violently after ignition, then seduce, slag, and remove the furnace. The molybdenum iron ingot is first cooled in the sand pit, then sent to the cooling room for cooling, and finally crushed and finished. The metal recovery rate is 92 to 99%. In the steelmaking industry, molybdenum oxide briquettes have been widely used in recent years instead of molybdenum and iron.
Ferro Molybdenum is an alloy of molybdenum and iron. Its main use is as an additive to molybdenum in steel making. The addition of molybdenum in the steel allows the steel to have a uniform fine-grained structure and improve the hardenability of the steel, which is advantageous for eliminating temper brittleness. In high speed steel, molybdenum can replace a part of tungsten. Molybdenum is used in combination with other alloying elements to produce stainless steel, heat resistant steel, acid resistant steel and tool steel, as well as alloys with special physical properties. Molybdenum is added to cast iron to increase its strength and wear resistance.
The largest application of ferromolybdenum is the production of ferroalloys based on the molybdenum content and range. It is suitable for machine tools and equipment, military equipment, refinery tubing, load-bearing components and rotary exercises. Ferro Molybdenum is also used in cars, trucks, locomotives, ships, etc. In addition, ferromolybdenum is used in stainless steel and heat resistant by synthetic fuels and chemical plants, heat exchangers, generators, oil refining equipment, pumps, turbine tubes, marine propellers, plastics and acids, and steel is used in storage containers. Tool steel has a high proportion of ferromolybdenum for high speed machined parts, cold work tools, drill bits, screwdrivers, dies, chisels, heavy castings, balls and mills, rolls, cylinders, piston rings and large drill bits.
